Through a Mother's Eyes

My infant eyes looked into yours
finding safety and limitless love,
and so our life together began

You watched me grow
and I watched you love me,
striving to be all that was You
You, where I felt safe and at home

We walked down many paths
some long and wearisome
some wondrous and new
our hearts, kindred always
lead us back home, to each other

Now I look into my child's eyes,
and am filled with the love
that you must have felt
when you first looked into mine

I hope to be half the mother you are
and I shall look
to the memories of you and I,
the love, the laughter, the tears
where I will find guidance,
and your never ending love
